Hot weekend for some cold training.

For the second weekend running my 2nd triathlon out of the way.

It started with a having to try 2 different London Lydo's to start my event. The hot weather meant the whole of london had the same idea as me.. well they just wanted a dip, so it started with a 1200m  slalom  in the Serpentine.  a boiling bike ride then a finally sun burnt run along the Thames to finish.

More training needed, Tyre dragging will be starting again soon.

Week 24 - and not long to go

A big review on our sales. So much activity but we seem to be struggling to get a break through. But I know we will. It is not far away. Mim has achieved so much to date, it is all lined up and all we need is one of the leads to say "YES" and others will follow. It is a case of who is going to jump in first! There are so many excellent reasons why. The expedition itself is about tapping into the values that made Britain what it is today anyway. Not in a nostalgic, arrogant or xenophobic way, but rather in celebration of what had gone on before and a recognition that it is still within us all to have that pioneering spirit in the new, uncertain world that we find ourselves in today. It is also an attempt on a world record - fastest, unsupported, unassisted form the edge of continent to the South Pole. Currently the Norwegians hold that record of 24 days, 8 hours and 50 minutes. Our target is 21 days. It is also 100 years since one of the greatest explorers, Captain Robert Falcon Scott, traversed the Beardmore Glacier on his way to claim the pole, only to find that Amundsen had beaten him to it. I always declare that it never was a race. Scott was there for 3 years to survey and study Antarctica and "whilst there claim the Pole for Britain". When Amundsen left Norway he did not declare his hand to go South, Rather telling the World he intended to go North. With no time to react, Scott was forced into an unequal race - 5 men and 45 dogs 120 miles closer against a team built to discover not race. His and his team's bravery, strength, courage and sheer determination was and is a beacon for us all. Even unto death they drove themselves to achieve. We, by the way, do not intent to emulate Scott! Anyway, we will be flown out from the Pole! To our sponsors and partners I say "Join us and tap into these values and stories. Make them your own and celebrate what it means to be "Best of British"! Hurrah

Manley's missive

Another hectic week and another week closer to the ice!
The team took a bit of a blow this week with Rupert in hospital with
pneumonia! He was as week as a kitten, but with more refined toilet
habits (just)! Took him and us all quite by surprise and made it tough
for Tanya all week. He is back at home now and recovering. We need him
fit and strong.
Steve "Ahoy" Walton has gone to sea - literally! He is skippering one
of the Navy yachts back across the Atlantic at the end of its round
the world trip - so my team is a tad light this week!! Typical Steve -
the crews have been roughing it all around the globe and he jumps on
for the glory leg - Royal reception and loads of champers on arrival.
When I look back at the activity of each week, it amazes me that I
have enough time to see my family - My wife would suggest I don't!
This is just a shorty.
Speak soon.
Hurrah

Manley's weekly Blog 17 May

Hi Bloggers and Followers,
Preparing ourselves for a team session in the Brecon beacons on
Thursday - yes, I know it is not quite as tough as Antarctica but it
is tougher than the New Forest! Obviously, not for "ice training" but
it is great for team development and to find out a little bit more
about what we are made of. The place is big enough that we can walk
for 4 days, carrying weights and pulling tyres - get tired, bored,
frustrated, cold, wet, annoyed - all those good human emotions that we
need to understand and deal with.
There will be a lot of talking too. There is so much more that we need
to know about each other - we will be sharing our Insight reports from
our work with Sports Psychologists Juliette Lloyd. And the final part
of the event is in planning the next few months and our critical sales
strategy.
Speak soon.
Yours aye
Manley
