about 70 kids from Alconbury Primary School. My Goddaughter,
Alexandra, invited me to address the school. I love talking with kids
- they have an natural curiosity and enthusiasm and always come up
with some cracking questions!
I asked for volunteers and every hand in the hall shot up! Last time I
asked for volunteers in a business meeting there was a deathly hush as
people looked at their phones, watches, shoes - anywhere but at me!!
It seems a shame that somewhere in between, that youthful exuberance
is somehow lost! Aah, the responsibilities of adulthood!
The kids tried on the gloves and balaclavas, jump-suits and boots,
goggles and thermals with only boy-volunteers to "try on my
underpants"!! Typical!! They roped up and tried to move around the
room and we talked about Polar Bears, and why they don't live with
Penguins, frostbite and chill-factor and what 7500 calories looked
like - 16 school dinners!!
Their knowledge of the world was a pleasure to see and their interest
in the our endeavours was inspirational
I vowed to take "something light and compact" from the school to be
photographed at the Pole - but not the school teddy - I don't want the
responsibility of its welfare and could not face the kids if I lost it!!
And the best question?...
"How do you go to the toilet"?
Marvellous
